Rural Indigenous Health Track (RIHT)
The UW Global and Rural Health Fellowship offers a unique one-year opportunity for justice-oriented physicians to gain hands-on experience serving rural and Indigenous communities.
Why RIHT? The challenges and strengths involved in providing equitable, high-impact care to transnational populations closely parallel those in rural and Indigenous settings. The Rural Indigenous Health Track (RIHT) is designed to empower physicians with a deep commitment to health equity, who are seeking a meaningful yet time-sensitive pathway to service and leadership in these communities.
Program Highlights:
- Mentorship & Learning: Comprehensive mentorship, didactic sessions, leadership development, and career guidance.
- Clinical Experience: Fellows dedicate two-thirds of the year to delivering care in under-resourced, culturally rich settings—partnering with Indigenous communities in Alaska or South Dakota.
- Scholarly Project: One-third of the year is reserved for a community-rooted scholarly project, developed in parallel with the fellow’s clinical service.
- Community Connection: Clinical work serves not just as skill-building, but as a foundation for trust, relationship-building, and meaningful impact within the communities served.
The RIHT offers more than training—it’s a partnership grounded in respect, learning, and shared purpose.
